This election was, and always will be, memorable to me because, for the first time, I really saw people working together for the change we so desperately need. I truly hope this election is the first of many steps toward a more tolerant, aware & involved America.

Be the change you want to see in the world. - Mahatma Gandhi

This election was special to me because for the first time I saw real passion, even in young people, to have their voice heard.

This election was special to me because my generation turned up to support the change we believed in, and finally the country listened. Everything is different now.

How sweet of you! Those earrings are gorgeous.

I'm relieved at the results of the election, but still anxious and scared for what the future holds. I worry that the challenges we face require drastic measures to be solved, and I am scared that even Obama, with the best of intentions, may be unwilling or unable to effect the truly radical change necessary to turn this nation and this planet around. I'm sorry; I don't mean to be overly pessimistic when so much of the country is celebrating... but that's the truth of my feelings right now. I'm hoping for the best but still frightened.

Not since the Vietnam War have I seen such passion among the electorate... I am so pleased that so many voters registered because they truly believed that someone was thinking of them, that they could in fact have a voice, that together we can make a difference and change....

I have been moved to tears many times over past days... and yesterday, I can honestly say, I was never prouder to be an American - and I believe that around the World, many, many peoples are proud of America this morning.

As a mother, I feel an inherent responsibility to teach my children that everyone is equal.

As an proud American and a DAR, I believe that we are best when we are united, and that there is no greater nation.

As a Christian, I believe that there is a master plan and that my role is to do my very best to help others.

All of these play a role in how I vote, in order to make the best possible decision for my family and my country, and to help the person most qualified to work towards their goal of leading our country.

I am not alone in my joy this morning.

This election was special to me because I can remember the way blacks were treated in the 60s when Martin Luther King made his "I Have a Dream" speech. I never thought it would happen, and I'm very proud of my country today that it has! I had emails from friends all over the world expressing how proud they were also! It's truly history-making, and we are part of it!

I stayed up until 5 A.M. UK time just so that I could watch Barack Obama speak after he won the election. I cannot get behind the sentiment that we need to be worried that he won't be up to the job. WE are up to the job and we showed the world that last night. He needs time to prove himself, as we all do, and no matter what happens next he has effected some kind of change. I am always proud to be an American, but after last night I am full to bursting!

What a wonderful gesture on your part Courtney! These earrings are truly gorgeous and the proud recipient will forever be reminded of this historic time.

Everyone I have come in contact with today is filled with hope - hope for America, hope for the world, hope for peace, harmony & understanding amongst peoples of all origins, hope for unity, brotherly love & greater commitment to service both here and abroad. What a wonderful day this is!

To me the election of Barack Obama as the next President means dynamic and capable leadership for America and a much needed time to heal, regroup and prosper is on the horizon.

I am surrounded by Individuals, who in the Name of God, are determined to take away the Rights of Some, to Keep Their Own. Disparaging Legalism, standing apart and alone, I have written to save my very life this past week and still, I Weep.

This election was special to me for so many reasons:

-I can now show my son an example of someone who looks like him making it to the highest office in the land.

-I actually feel like an American as opposed to part of an ethnic group that is just barely tolerated in this country.

-This man has shown that coming together for a common good can lead to real results.

That is just a few of the reasons. Those earrings are gorgeous!!!

This election was significant to me for so many reasons - because we need to mend fences around the world, because we need to give a helping hand to those here at home who need it, because we need to better educate our children, because we need to look forward not backward, and because we need to keep working toward our dream of a vital and unified United States of America. What a great day for our country!

I remember driving thru the South as a child, seeing the signs of "Negro" and "White" over restroom doors..

I remember sitting in Sunday School, terrified because Castro had missiles pointed at our country.

I remember the Man who saved us from that disaster, the hope of our country, being shot down by a gunman in Texas.

I remember my sorrow for the loss of HOPE.

I remember hearing of a "negro woman" boarding a bus in the South, and taking a stand for her own right's as a member of this nation..

I remember the words "I Have A Dream" spoken by Martin Luther King, reminding us we are all God's Children and equal in His eyes.

And I will never forget the words of President Elect Obama when he spoke the words "It's the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled - Americans!......

There is HOPE! And WE made this happen. America has spoken for the future. And I wept!

Wow, where to even begin on what this election has meant to me!! As an American living overseas, I have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for Barack Obama all over The UK and Europe. People over here have cared about this candidate and the outcome of this election to a degree that I never, ever could have imagined in my wildest dreams. The potential for this one remarkable man to unite not only the residents of the USA but people all across the globe is simply mindblowing and one of the most inspiring and uplifting phenomenons I have seen in my rather short lifetime. This man isn't just our candidate - he has managed to move the entire world and show people, regardless of where they are from, that you can truly become anything you aspire to. I feel like I just watched the collective global mood brighten by several dozen watts!! Now, if only California han't messed up so badly on Proposition 8...

Even from my part of the world this election was special to me because I hoped but didn't really dare believe it could be possible. It showed me that many things are possible. But if things had really changed then his skin colour shouldn't even be mentionned... maybe one day skin colour ,and other sources of discrimination, will not be an issue anymore and people won't even mention it.

Wow what a fantastic gift you're giving away!!! To me, the election was something that opened my eyes wider to the world. I'm only 32 years old but it made me really see the entire scope of my small amount of time on this planet. To think that within my lifetime we've elected an African American president is so wonderfully momentous. I am so happy to finally be proud of my country again. To be proud, and not ashamed, of our president.
